The Pagoda was built and run by my parents, Jack and Lorraine Prock from the early sixties into the 80s. I remember walking the streets of Clawson when I was about 6 or 7 with my dad collecting signatures to put “liquor by the glass” on the City Council ballot. They were successful and became the very first restaurant & bar to serve cocktails. The building style was not to tout Chinese food, although our first chef, Kim, was a refugee from China. The unique roof design was something my parents and John Loison decided on together and was breathtaking inside. This was the only Pagoda my parents built and owned, although it was also for a time in later years called “Prock’s”.

In a joint like this you could eat, drink and host a wedding or party. Great architecture of the likes we will never see again. A submitter named George reminded me there was a Pagoda in Detroit also. Actually there were many others in other cities around Michigan also. As they were not affiliated with this location, I will keep this entry for Clawson only.
